East Coast Theatre Company (ECTC) was launched in 1994 as an inventive professional theatre company based in Sydney.
The company’s inaugural production, a one-man show of Euripides' Medea, received huge critical acclaim and was instrumental in establishing a solid artistic foundation for the company.
This was followed by a number of critically lauded productions which included new Australian and international writing and contemporary interpretations of the classics under the artistic directorship of Joseph Uchitel.
While well known and established actors are always at the core of ECTC productions, there are always opportunities for new and recent graduates to develop their skills working alongside with experienced artists.
ECTC reinvigorated the Sydney cabaret scene by producing a program that, over a period of two and a half years, presented the cream of Australian cabaret performers and gave newcomers an opportunity to showcase their work and foster their skills. Cabaret shows featured performers such as Kane Alexander, Trevor Ashley, Mitchell Butel, Peter Cousens, Margi De Ferranti, Toni Lamond, Jackie Loeb, Leonie Page, Jane Rutter, Phil Scott, Angela Toohey, Geraldine Turner and Jenny Vuletic .
The company continues to work creatively, drawing on the very best of the national and international theatrical canon, to produce work that entertains, asserts, challenges, and extend our awareness and connection to the human condition.
